Flava is a taste, a style, a feeling...What's your flava?

My Thoughts On...
The Flava Reviews
by Lady Flava

The Christopher Fields Project
Is Available at:
www.cdbaby.com/cd/christopherfields

Artist: Christopher Fields aka Poetry Man
Project: CD
Genre: Spoken Word
Flava Rating: 10 Snaps

The Christopher Fields Project is a powerful selection of spoken word pieces that cover the subjects of the pride of a black man in that title piece to the intimacy of love or even lustiness in pieces such as "Type of Love" and "Love Jones."  Then you will experience the connection of music to life in Christopher's piece called "They Sing Me" telling the story of how one can feel so deeply from the vibe of musical piece you listen to.  Closing out with the heartfelt piece on the Katina devastation  called "Katrina Blue" and the challenging piece on the use of religion in Christopher's closing piece called "Some Among Us"

I have been a fan of spoken word for many years.  Listening to, no, let me back up...experiencing "The Christopher Fields Project" was experiencing spoken word at it's BEST.  From the choice of tracks and diversity that blended well to the top production was so appreciated.  Listening to every piece, I found the musical and vocal accompaniments flowed with Christopher's delivery to perfection.

I would recommend this CD to all that love spoken word and poetry.  I would recommend this CD to ones that want to sit and experience life with a voice that will captivate you and a flow that will allow you to see his story in your own.  I would recommend this CD to those new to this art form called spoken word...this would give you the taste of one who is worthy of breaking you in.

Epiphany Castro

Lyrical Sorceress/Spoken Word Artist /Award Winning BTR Host

www.epiphanyshouse.net

I came to know Epiphany about 4 years ago online as we both traveled the BTR online open mic shows...What a journey we have shared and we have both witness the growth in each other. In the early days I knew Epiphany as a very passionate and emotional poet....writing straight from her emotions at the moment, of love, of pain of life as she saw it.  As time has passed, she pulled in her emotions in some.  She still writes of life but with more on a level of control and empowerment.

Epiphany has been a very successful BTR radio show host for now 4 years.  Sharing the mike with an array of top notch talents who she loves and adores with great respect and appreciation.  Those same artist share the same feelings of Epiphany.

~Lady Flava~

Check out her shows Every Sunday at 12pm PST at:

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/epiphanyshouse

Epiphany has two albums out:

  • Soul Flower
    Debut album 2010
  • Alchemist
    Sophomore release by 2011

One thing I can say about Epiphany is that she is very passionate about her craft, her art but she has taken the time to learn the business side, reaching out and developing relationships with those who have gone before her to take on a winning attitude and approach.  She works hard and has invested in her work from not only time and dedication but financially.  You can tell in the products she is creating in her CD's and Videos.

I have grown to appreciate and respect Epiphany...when she makes up her mind to make a change, she figures out the game plan, goes for it and sticks to it.  We can really learn from her convictions and commitment to herself, her family and her art.

Get a taste of Epiphany's flava by listening to one of her signature pieces, "Apologies"

Tony Bunn

Visionary. Extreme Bassist. Inventor. Mathematician. Rocket Scientist. Criminal who aspires to Sainthood. Continuously Regenerative Musical Outlaw. Taoist Sub-master. Jazzman. Rocker. Sexual Healer. Madman!

Tony has always been successful at somehow magically slipping out of the boxes in which others would attempt to confine him. During his first professional tour of duty, as the electric bassist for Sun Ra's Arkestra, he was dubbed one of "Them Freedom Boys" by the Dark Master himself. No truer words were ever spoken. And that comment was to be understood to be not such a good thing --- for freedom lacking discipline results in slavery. Freedom informed by discipline becomes magical life, ie LOVE. Since that initiation, truly a trial by fire, Tony has spent his life developing the spiritual and mental discipline necessary to broadcast LOVE throughout this shared existence.

A Baltimore, Maryland native who began his journey into musicality in the fourth grade, he recalls, "I wanted to play saxophone like Maceo (Parker). I loved his sound with James Brown. However, the only instrument they had in elementary school was the clarinet, so I learned to play that." After gaining modest proficiency on a number of instruments throughout his formative years, he descended to the depths of the bass section by the end of high school ---- and there he lurks to this day.

Throughout his rather adventurous career, he's been an undeniably potent component of the live music of countless artists. Tony can also be found on recordings by a diverse array of artists, including such notables as the inimitable Sun Ra, violinist Michal Urbaniak, vocalist Gabrielle Goodman, and most recently, saxophonist Ray Gaskins, to name but a few.

Quite the imaginative one, Tony also pioneered the use of extended range instruments, having designed one of the first 5-string electric basses to employ a low-B string in the late 1970's. Tony developed the concepts for the 5-string fretted and 8-string fretless bass guitars and presented them to a then relatively obscure luthier named Paul Reed Smith. Built by Paul Reed Smith during the period in which he was hand-making guitars for the likes of Carlos Santana and Al DiMeola, these unique instruments are among the most beautiful examples of Paul's early work to be found in the PRS Guitars company archives.

As a lover of Music...I reached out to Tony and wanted to learn more about his sound.  I was blessed to have him respond all the way from Copenhagen, Denmark as he share a few of his tracks from his CD Small World. Tony Bunn's flava was new and exciting to me...more complex than I am used to with a raw and very organic flair and feel.  I fell in love with his music because it stretched my novice ear to learn and hear more...feel more.  It made me think. From there I embarked an furthering my desire to understand what I hear in the instrumental realm of music. Now I have my own copy of "Small World" to listen to and cherish...you need to get a copy too ;-)

The interesting thing about sharing Tony Bunn's music on my radio shows...he is one of the few that other jazz musicians have sent me comments about and want to connect with him online.

I look forward to furthering my connection and experience with this international artist.  Tony Bunn is the proud papa of a brand new baby girl Kaninen Prinsesse Nikki Josefine born this past November.

Flava’s Coffee

He said, I would have liked to have

drank your coffee

Dark and rich with just the right amount

of creamy crema to savor

As melodic jazzy sounds are heard in the distance

Visions of what could have been

Or is it, what could be…

As I, without thought grind the beans

to a perfect texture

Swirling in the flava of my own thoughts

I remember experiencing you

A flow of perfection

Tones piercing my soul

Words that spoiled my heart

And then I hear you say…

I would have like to have drank your coffee

Temperatures reaching the right degree

Coming to a halt as I turn off the valve

Pouring the beautiful liquids into a vessel

Perfect for your clutch

An aroma that I know so well and

have come to love

My gift to you in this quiet moment of just us

I open my eyes and lick my lips

Devouring every drop as I sip

the warmth of my thoughts

I hear you say…

I would have like to have drank your coffee

Stand Together Against Bullying
www.standtogether.tv

Sirdeaner Walker, whose 11-year-old son died by suicide after experiencing bullying in school, has dedicated her life to ending bullying of all kinds, including bullying based on race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or anything else that makes people different.
Take the pledge and stand together with Sirdeaner.

Flava News is # 55,136

Dear Susan "Lady Flava",

You and I are in the midst of something exciting. Over 140,000 people (and counting!) have joined us by signing the Stand Together pledge to end bullying. Even Whoopi Goldberg on ABC’s The View took the pledge and talked about it on the Dec 8th episode.

My family and I are astounded by the outpouring of support. I received 750+ notes of encouragement to my initial email from across the country and around the world.

But many of the emails were from students sharing their own experiences of harassment. And my heart ached as I read messages from parents with children that endure constant bullying at school.

The facts are unsettling.  According to my friends at GLSEN, two thirds of students have been verbally or physically harassed during the past year because of a personal characteristic.

This needs to stop. We need to let decision makers in our schools and communities know that bullying is unacceptable.

Will you tell me about your own experience of bullying that I can share with key leaders? We need to hear from everyone: students, educators, parents and anyone else affected by bullying.

My web team created a page for you to submit your story. You can send a note or create a video. It’s up to you. Just make sure to send your story through this page even if you emailed me before. I don’t want it to get lost.

I know that we can end bullying. And I am thankful to count you as a friend in this work. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress forward.

With love and hope,

Sirdeaner Lynn Walker

P.S. – If you know someone who has a story to share, please forward this email to them.

Tips on Success from Brian Tracy

Hello Flava News,

The turning point in my life came when I discovered the law of cause and effect, the great law of the universe, and human destiny. I learned that everything happens for a reason. I discovered that success is not an accident. Failure is not an accident, either. I also discovered that people who are successful in any area usually are those who have learned the cause-and-effect relationship between what they want and how to get it.

Determine Your Personal Growth and Development Values

To realize your full potential for personal and professional growth and development, begin with your values as they apply to your own abilities. As you know, your values are expressed in your words and actions.

You can tell what your values are by looking at what you do and how you respond to the world around you. Your values are the root causes of your motivations and your behaviors.

Clarify Your Personal Growth and Development Vision

Create a long-term vision for yourself in the area of personal growth. Project forward five or ten years and imagine that you are developed fully in every important part of your life. Idealize and see yourself as outstanding in every respect. Refuse to compromise on your personal dreams.

Set Goals for Your Personal Growth and Development

Now take your vision and crystallize it into specific goals. Here is a good way to start. Take out a piece of paper and write down ten goals that you would like to achieve in the area of personal and professional development in the months and years ahead. Write in the present tense, exactly as if you were already the person you intend to be.

Determine exactly what you want to be able to do. Decide who you want to become. Describe exactly what you will look like when you become truly excellent in your field and in your personal life.

Upgrade Your Personal Knowledge and Skills

Set specific measures for each of your goals. If your goal is to excel in your field, determine how you will know when you have achieved it. Decide how you can measure your progress and evaluate your success.

Perhaps you can use as a measure the number of hours you study in your field each week. Perhaps you can measure the number of books you read or the number of audio programs you listen to. Perhaps you could measure your progress by the number of sales you make as the result of your growing skills.

Develop Winning Personal Growth and Development Habits

Select the specific habits and behaviors you will need to practice every day to become the person you want to become. These could be the habits of clarity, planning, thoroughness, studiousness, hard work, determination, and persistence.

Action Exercise

Decide today to develop yourself to the point where you can achieve every financial and personal goal you ever set and become everything you are capable of becoming. Write down your goals and make sure to look at them every day, then ponder ways you possibly achieve these goals.

To exeeding your own expectations,

Brian Tracy

Tell them Lady Flava sent you ;-)

I came to know Stephen Jerome Ferguson just about a year ago through a site called All Media Artists and through them had an opportunity to have him on my radio show as a featured guest.  I guess from there we really connected and he has returned several times as a featured guest, is a regular listener and participant on my radio shows.  I have come to value this man for his talents of course but for who he stands for as a man, a father, an artist & producer and my friend.  His journey has been interesting from coming from a church background where his passion for music began to joining the Army and connecting with other musicians to form a band while stationed in Germany.  Bringing his passion and flava back to the states as he continued to create and perfect his God given gift of art of music.

Today, Stephen Jerome Ferguson is now the proud CEO of
SJF Music, LLC.  Working with a variety of artists from across the United States.  Such artists are Pianist, Song Writer & Composer; John D. Green Sr (MI), Guitarist; Melvin Chenault (MI), Spoken Word Artist; Leeia Henderson (WA), Spoken Word Artist; Eternally Blaze (NY), Spoken Word Artist/Poet; Dakota Williams (TX), Spoken Word; Artist Deborah Renee (WA) and Singer, Song Writer and Musician; Sheldon Botler.

I have joined the team of SJF Music as a supporter and adviser, along with supporting SJF Music as being the radio source to first break any new music/tracks coming from any of the team members.  It has been so very exciting to be apart of this growing business and team.  It was easy for me to agree to be a team member.  Stephen is noted not only by myself but many others as to having a very smooth and polished sound when it comes to his music.  I knew that when he embarked on SJF Music that that was exactly what he was going to create and produce for the artist on his chosen team.  I am witness that this exactly what he has done thus far.

Some exciting projects will be released in 2012, so I highly recommend that everyone signs up for to join the SJF Music email list/newsletter.  You will want to stay in the know on what's new in 2012
Between SJF himself and his administrative assistant, Eleanor Lynch...they will help to keep you in the know.  Stay tune for SJF Music in 2012!

Just 1 of the many projects expected in 2012

As of July 7, 2011,

SJF Music is now...SJF Music LLC.

We are a music production company that specializes in producing music for independent artists.

We have the ability to produce entire CD projects as well as single releases. We can also provide original music if you need it as well as help with arrangements and song writing.

This is a culmination of a life long dream for me. I have always been interested in how the sounds of different instruments could be manipulated and tweaked in order to expand the complete sound.

The goal of SJF Music is to provide the artist with a polished and professional product. A product that they will be proud of and a product that their fans will be proud to own and to share.

If you are interested in learning more, please email me at Stephen@sjfmusic.com

As always, thank you all for your support of me and my music.

Word of Mouth is a Powerful Tool

Lady Flava's Corner

Sharing my Thoughts with You

Put your best foot forward and make sure your production level of your ART is really really good.
Compare it to your favorite mainstream artist of your art form and genre to see how it matches up in quality.

As this year comes to an end, I have been spending a great deal of time in reflection of my experience of 2011...the good, the bad..the ugly...lol and yes I am giving thanks for the many blessings.  I have experienced much growth in many ways when it comes to Flava News and being Lady Flava.  I have been willing to step out on faith, realize that I am deserving and accept that I am not always right.  I receive the love of those few trusted loved ones that hold me down and pull my coattail when I need it.  This year I spent time realizing that I do not want to step into the new year with baggage that is so not deserving of my time and energy...so I began the process of letting go, moving on, forgiving other and especially myself.  I went from doing shows on what can we do better, to you are destined for greatness with Lisa Nichols theory to sharing of a very difficult experience with a show called Poison of the Industry.  I find these type of shows are empowering and rewarding for those that came to experience this time with me.

So what do I have to offer in 2012.  I have changed Flava News into a Movement.  A members only exclusive Movement and it is growing and growing.  I am dedicated and committed to supporting the Members of the Movement in anyway that I can set forth in my guidelines of membership support. Along with providing affordable rates for additional artists services. I will continue to grow my connects and networks to identify who, when and where we walk through the open doors together ;-)  I am working towards the resolve of building onto my technology equipment to be able to provide more effective and efficient services to the members of the Flava News Movement and beyond.

The numbers are growing all the way around for Flava News/Flava News Radio.  More people in the industry are reaching out to network...this means more opportunities for doors to open up for you.  I will do my part as the Artist's Cheerleader and I expect you to do your part as a dedicated, determined, professional artists.  Forward Movement as Jace ECAj will say...forward Movement in 2012.

I want to thank all the Members of Flava News for joining hands with me as we, together build this movement.  The possibilities are endless of what we can do together.

Wishing you and yours, the happiest of holidays and much hope with the belief in your success as we enter 2012.

Sincerely,

Susan "Lady Flava"Koshi
