Ronnie Run-Winterville, NC http://www.reverbnation.com/ronnierunArtist: Ronnie Run
Genre: Hip Hop
I came to know Ronnie Run on Facebook. We have a mutual friend that
is from North Carolina that was one of my regulars at Flava Coffee
House, Seattle, WA. Ronnie Run reached out to me to share his music and
I have to say that I have come to appreciate his style of hip hop. His
style reminds me of the sounds you would have on the box during a
family barbeque or what you would be listening to while hanging out at
the park. It is clear in his lyrics that he has a pride for his
community (hood.)
I had the pleasure of having Ronnie Run on
one of my shows as a feature. I will say that I was surprised by what I
experienced. Online he is full of charisma but when he came on the All
Media Artists Features with me and when I have spoken to him on the
phone, he is so quiet and respectful. Ronnie Run is constantly on his
grind. Getting his music out to be heard in anyway that he can. I
don't feel he is trying to be anyone but himself and true to what he
creates. His tracks like "I Remember" is being played on several radio
stations in the Carolinas and beyond. I have been playing Ronnie Run's
music for at least one year and now have in rotation his new single,
"Hood Famous"
I wish Ronnie Run much success as he continues on his journey as an underground artists.

The Hill By Lamont Careyhttp://www.amazon.com/HILL-Lamont-Carey/dp/0981620035Artist: Lamont Carey
Project: Novel
Genre: Urban Fiction
Flava Rating: 9 Flava Snaps
The
Hill by Lamont Carey is a story centered around Sherman as he enters
into a life behind bars. You will witness the reconnection of a
relationship with John, who he knew before the days of embarking on his
journey of incarceration. Is it about falling right into place of a life
that in many ways are controlled by the system or by circumstances of
survival? Sherman learns what he needs to do to make his world work
behind bars as he listens, pays attention and develops his system to
maneuver the new community of prison life. The Hill is a story not only
of survival but loyalty of the trusted few and a sense of brotherhood
from others, such as KT and Brace. You will see the triangle of
Sherman's outside love and mother of his child, Ella to a prison
relationship with Nurse, Susan. This book touches on many aspects of
life behind bars...The missing of loved ones, power & control to
staying true to self at all costs.
This was an interesting read
for me. The style of format is that of a script, so it is full of
description of situations to dialogue amongst the characters. There is
no confusing what is going on. I appreciate Lamont Carey's style of
telling a strong story of life behind bars. In my opinion, you can
visualize it and feel it as if you are present and a witness to the day
in and day out lives of Sherman and his prison associates. The scenes
of destruction of targeted prisoners is pretty graphic but not hard to
take...just giving you a look at what potentially can be experienced
once you are put into prison life and the reality that you may not come
out at all.
For me this was a great read! It was a fast read
and left me wanting to read more by this writer. I first came to know
Lamont Carey through is powerful style of spoken word and as an activist
of his organization that supports the transition of prisoners back into
society. I was excited to experience his first novel, The Hill and was
not disappointed. I recommend this book for those that can appreciate
the story of an urban fiction as it fully brings you into the experience
of being behind bars. For me it leaves me thinking about how we can
raise our children differently and support those that need someone to
believe in them with the potential of keeping them from ending up in
survival mode in jail and or prison. This book was both entertaining
and eye opening!
Nicely done, Lamont Carey!

The Christopher Fields ProjectIs Available at:www.cdbaby.com/cd/christopherfieldsArtist: Christopher Fields aka Poetry Man
Project: CD
Genre: Spoken Word
Flava Rating: 10 Flava Snaps
The Christopher Fields Project is a powerful selection of spoken word pieces that cover the subjects of the pride of a black man in that title piece to the intimacy of love or even lustiness in pieces such as "Type of Love" and "Love Jones." Then you will experience the connection of music to life in Christopher's piece called "They Sing Me" telling the story of how one can feel so deeply from the vibe of musical piece you listen to. Closing out with the heartfelt piece on the Katina devastation called "Katrina Blue" and the challenging piece on the use of religion in Christopher's closing piece called "Some Among Us"
I have been a fan of spoken word for many years. Listening to, no, let me back up...experiencing "The Christopher Fields Project" was experiencing spoken word at it's BEST. From the choice of tracks and diversity that blended well to the top production was so appreciated. Listening to every piece, I found the musical and vocal accompaniments flowed with Christopher's delivery to perfection.
I would recommend this CD to all that love spoken word and poetry. I would recommend this CD to ones that want to sit and experience life with a voice that will captivate you and a flow that will allow you to see his story in your own. I would recommend this CD to those new to this art form called spoken word...this would give you the taste of one who is worthy of breaking you in.
