Biscuits & Gravy: A Taste of My Parents’ Love
Have you ever had one of those moments where you just want to experience something that lets you close your eyes and drift away, even if just for a little while? It’s not that the day has started out bad, but the anticipation of what might be around the corner can make you crave comfort and peace.
To take you where this story is headed, I need to start with a memory of my parents. I was blessed to be raised in a home where my parents genuinely liked and loved each other. They enjoyed being parents, and they enjoyed being together. A couple of times a month, they would go out to breakfast at a little spot in Lake City that had the best biscuits and gravy. Sometimes, if my schedule allowed, I’d join them. Those are moments I truly miss.
After my mom passed, and when my grandbaby came along, we began taking Daddy out to breakfast—this time to IHOP. It seemed to become our weekly tradition. Now, for my granddaughter, IHOP holds a special memory—it’s the place she associates with breakfast with Grandpa.
Fast forward to today. My morning hadn’t started badly—I had already done some breathwork and meditation—but I felt a pull to channel the feeling of being with my parents at breakfast. They were such peaceful, calm people, and I wanted to carry that into my day.

So I went down to the hospital cafeteria, where (believe it or not) they do a pretty fine job with biscuits and gravy. I ordered the full works: biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and a Pineapple Mango Lemonade Lipton Iced Tea Infusion. Pure comfort food.

At that moment, only three staff had arrived, and the clinic was still quiet. I sat with my meal, knowing the day ahead would be busy once staff and patients began streaming in. I couldn’t finish it all, so I saved some for later—but even that felt like a gift to myself. I smiled, thinking of my mommy and daddy, and felt them close.
I am grateful for the beautiful memories my parents gave me, and for the way something as simple as biscuits and gravy can bring them back so vividly.
💛 Do you have something you can experience today that reminds you of a cherished moment from your past? Or maybe, today is the day to create a memory with loved ones that they will carry forward and remember you by.
Whispering in your ear… today is the day to create a sweet memory. 🌻
