A&E | Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse is Real and Ruins Relationships and Connections…The Abuser rarely owns up to their behavior that causes the disconnect and discomfort. It’s always the other persons issue… I’ve experienced first hand and heard of several business situations being ruined behind drunkenness and drug abuse.

I’ve witnessed amazing talents not allowed opportunities as others, which appears to be based off of past industry experiences. I do believe that people can turn their lives around, but sometimes the bridges that were burned during the years of using while performing are not forgiven.

I have also witnessed family that have addiction issues and lives have been traumatized and hearts broken through the continued use and stolen promises.

When I lived in Vegas I became knowledgeable that prescription drug addiction and selling drugs was commonplace. I could never co-sign this and struggled knowing people who participated in the use and sales. I’m grateful I never witnessed this, just heard the rumors.

Working in the medical field I would hear the question of medication use and being careful of mixing certain medications. I worried about these transactions and it causing a negative health outcome. I understand people needing to make money and those needing relief from pain…but this is illegal and risky. There are some that pay doctors to write them a prescription for refills.

The sad thing with those who choose to sell their medications and then turn around needing them and they do not have any left and have to wait to refill. I never understood this hustle. It is the reason why it’s hard for someone to got to their doctor or pharmacy for a refill.

Drug abuse/misuse is never good, and the illegal hustle is never worth it in my opinion.

Be honest with yourself and get help, you are worth it!

What are the four C’s of addiction?

compulsion, cravings, consequences, and control

What are the 5 things to recovery?

Educating clients in these rules can help them focus on what is important: 1) change your life (recovery involves creating a new life where it is easier to not use); 2) be completely honest; 3) ask for help; 4) practice self-care; and 5) don’t bend the rules.
