60+ | Glimmers vs Triggers

In my opinion, many of us focus on the negatives of life first vs the positives. As I age, and I am much more aware of myself and my whys…plus my faith in an higher power who I call God, I try to really understand that I am blessed and many things in a day that I can give thanks for.

I came across this quote and I fell in love with it. This is always something, even the smallest of things that and bring a smile to your face. Those are ✨Glimmers. Those smiles or genuine chit chats on the bus or at your job, to the fully present conversations and an act of kindness you give or receive. Those are ✨Glimmers.

As a Christian, we can always say that the first blessing is when you wake up in the morning and take that first breath…yet that is a ✨Glimmer that is worth giving thanks for. We can give thanks for a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food in your belly…Those are ✨Glimmers. I do believe that we get so comfortable in life that we take so much for granted…all the Glimmers.

Let me tell you about my ✨Glimmers in just the first few hours of my day. My daughter prepared something for me to bring to work for lunch. I am greeted by my bus driver with, “Good Morning Friend” and I chit chat and laugh with a person who I have been riding the bus with for the past 3 months…we greet each other every morning. Then, I noticed that my bus driver drives slowly as I walk down the street so he can stop at the 4-way stop where I cross so that he waves me to go before him. I arrived at work early and opened the clinic that I am working in today, but on some mellow jazz and as the nurse and medical assistant arrive, I greet them with a smile and good morning, and it is reciprocated. Look at all the ✨Glimmers that I experienced in just the few hours to my day.

Try to switch what you focus on and see the ✨Glimmers in your day and stop to smile and give thanks. I truly believe when we can focus on the ✨Glimmers, the Triggers will lessen or at least the impact that a place in our spirit will not be as pronounced. I have also come to find that many times the challenges we face turn in to blessings in disguise. We can always change the perspective of what we deem a problem and turn it into a positive or understand that we will survive and come out okay.

Find a way to focus on the ✨Glimmers and not the Triggers…this is my prayer for all of us.
