60+ | Your Name Should Matter

I was raised that when I left my house, that I was not only representing myself but I was representing my family’s name.

Being a minister’s daughter and a man so respect throughout our community and city, even beyond…I understand the responsibility I had to watch my behavior.

Trust me I was not perfect and did my wrong, but my never swayed far from understanding the importance of my family name.

The Koshi’s are proud people.

Then the lady to help to raise me up was a community leader through activism, health care representative, Christian advocate. She raised me on how to carry myself and to represent my family properly. To hold my head up, shake hands, how to speak and look people in their face…to know when and where and to behave in certain situations.

Her name still is spoken about even after her passing to the point an apartment complex is being built and named after her. Her name stands for something.

Now I have experienced people with a global recognizable name. Where it’s challenging to know the real person, where egos come into play. Clothes, wigs, lashes, makeup and money. But the real person…maybe I got glimpses or maybe it was a momentary need.

Seeing people making themselves available for the momentary need and making excuses for the flippant behavior and attitude. It’s all because of a name. I hate that I witnessed that.

If you have a famous name, you should want to be know for making people feel just as great not because of what they can do for you but because you see them and truly value them.

Honor your name by being a great person, who you make people feel good about being around you…not because of your name, but because of your character.

What does your name stand for?

Do you think of the importance your name is in how you are seen and remembered?

Do you come from a family name that stands out or have you create your own legacy.

I do feel we have a responsibility to our name. No matter if you are a family person, an individual or recognized because of your name…,

Your name means something!

Be kind

Be responsible

Be a person who is dependable

Be and live honestly

Smile

Find peace

Have love

Know God

Remember this, non of us are perfect but we can always decide how our story is going to play out.

I know I want to be remembered for caring for others and being helpful. I now want to be remembered for being at peace and having a genuine smile on my face that shines from my spirit.

I want to be remembered as Lady Flava that really believed in original artistry and showed my support for what I liked.

DON’T POSITION YOURSELF TO BE REMEMBERED FOR YOUR MISTAKES, BE REMEMBERED FOR MAKING PEOPLE FEEL WONDERFUL IN YOUR PRESENCE IN PERSON AND BEYOND.

The internet has given us a place that we can create a persona and we may never know if what we experience online is the real you.

So I will end with this…

Be consistent with your character in person and online. Never act like your perfect, we all have flaws…our good days and bad.
