Review | Black College Expo #Seattle 11/4/23

Although I did not attend, my daughter took my granddaughter to the Seattle Black College Expo at Rainier Beach High School.

They both told me that despite the pouring down rain and get soak walking to the school, the experience was well worth it.

I’m proud of my granddaughter that she wanted to go and I understand that she spoke with a variety of people at the booths. They came home with a variety of pamphlets which I immediately looked at once they dried.

It appears that there were a nice selection of schools represented with information to go over, as we explore K interests and options.

Although, the internet is such a valuable tool to research and explore, I believe there is much more value to see and hear someone speak and present information along with having hard copies of information to bring home.

K also has a strong interest in becoming an EMT, so I was pleased to hear that she had the opportunity to meet Black EMTs and ask questions. She was told she could apply to be a cadet when she turns 16.

I’m proud that my daughter took her daughter to this event and stayed. I wished at all young black children could have this opportunity and support to explore, to be encouraged and motivated to dream for their futures.

Through out the event my daughter was texting me about what was going on, who they saw, family and friends they ran into and the ceremonies and entertainment.

I’m proud to live in a city that provides these type of opportunities for our young black children. Despite what people from Seattle might think and say about this city, it is much more supportive, progressive and representing of what a positive potential can be for one’s future.

To my daughter and granddaughter, I’m proud you took the opportunity to attend the Seattle Black College Expo. You can’t let the rain stop things in Seattle.
