  1. 2.

(in North America) an annual national holiday marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. The holiday commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621, and is held in the US on the fourth Thursday in November. A similar holiday is held in Canada, usually on the second Monday in October.

I know that there is a lot of controversy about the representation of Thanksgiving and the inaccuracy of the facts of the founding of America, Columbus, and all of that. If you understand American History…you cannot discover a location if it is already inhabited by a people…which is Native American’s. But I am not her to discuss how the history of America has been shifted but the Anglo-Saxon.

To me the Thanksgiving Holiday is day that many families’ set aside to commit to coming today, giving thanks for their many blessings, good times with family and friends, along with yummy food, football and fun.

Throughout my life I have always enjoyed Thanksgiving.  My mother would always start baking about a week before a variety of wonderful desserts and then the day before Thanksgiving is when the final preparations was made to cook the turkey, and all the traditional Koshi fixings and side dishes.  As I became a teenager, and had my driver’s license, I would venture out to visit my friends.

When my mother passed in 1999, I then took on the responsibility along with my daughters to cook the family meal, where my Daddy would be the main focus of the holiday with his football or cowboy movie, possibly some reading and taking naps off and on.  He loved when our extended family would come by, they all greeted him and then let him to do his thing in the living room, while be did out thing in the other parts of our home.  Several generations of our people would come by, with Daddy always blessing the food and then we would chow down.

When I was living in Vegas, I didn’t have family to spend time with on the holidays, so I am so happy to be back home.  Yesterday we went to my son’s home and have a wonderful time.  Met some on my daughter in laws family and enjoyed great food and wonderful engagement…creating fond memories.

Of course Thanksgiving should never be the only day that we give Thanks, we should give Thanks Every Day! There is always something to be thankful for 🙏
