60+ | Happy Holidays

When I think about the holidays, especially Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Years…I love the family experience behind these holidays.  With the commercialism about the holidays and turning them into money spending pressures, I maintain that the holidays is not about gift giving and fancy clothes but time for family and friends…sharing time, space, and yummy food.

There is so much controversy that from time to time that pops up, and I will be honest, it saddens me.  Yes, we know the inaccuracy of history based off who was writing it.  We know that Santa Clause is not real and new years resolutions are not necessarily kept.  We know that Kwanzaa is a cultural tradition that is recognized and more and more embraced within the African American families, and communities about the United States with beautiful and powerful standards to live by.

But again, all the end of the year holidays are wonderful reasons to come together and fellowship with one another.  I believe that with the way that many live their lives, wither it is personal and professional feeling overwhelmed and are more closed off and stay more to themselves.  I also believe that Covid has also shifted how we live our lives and how much we socialize with others outside of our homes.  Trust me I know that there are many that do get out an about and spend time with family and friends, but I would imagine that even you can recognize that there are many that do not come out to play too much by choice.

So,  I hope to see a rise with family and friends coming back together for the holidays.

This is my first holiday season being home after living in Vegas for 6 years, I was a beautiful experience to be home with my girls.  It was simply, not stressful with time just spent laughing, talking, eating, and watching TV.   Once we move in a few weeks, I believe that I will start getting out more to socializing on a personal and professional basis.   Next year I believe that we will open our home to have family and friends come by for fun and food.

What living in Vegas taught me was how much family means to me, it also taught me that life is short and to not take it for granted.  Although I am not one to get on an airplane to travel, not take crazy risks like climbing a mountain and live off the land…I do want to find ways to create memories for myself, family, and friends.  For me, it is never about the gift that is given, it has always been about the love and time that is shared.

I have become a loner and only allow a handful of people to have access to me, but with those people I want to do more when the mood hits and time permits.

As we finish out the year, I pray that you have people that you can spend time with and create some wonderful memories as we leave 2023 and enter 2024.

Before I end this post, I want to encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and what you know and go out and experience something new with it comes to Creativity and Small Businesses.  I will always advocate for people to experience Indie Arts and Entertainment and Indie Small Businesses.  They might even remember your name.  If you like what you experience, help spread the word.

From My Family to Yours…Happy New Year with much Love and Blessings.
