When He Loves Me Still, Even Though I Can’t Remember His Name
By Simply Flava – Sharing Her Thoughts
My Peace and I have been in each other’s lives since we were fifteen. I say he loved me first — he might tell you different, but don’t listen to him. 😉
Now we’re both 65, trying our best to reminisce about high school and all the years in between. It usually goes something like this:
“Do you remember…?”
“Nope.”
“Me either… but I think it was fun.” 😄
He always says, “Sue, you know I can’t remember nothin’.” And honestly? I can’t either. We’ll stare at old pictures of classmates and scratch our heads like, Are we really that old? Yes. Yes, we are.
Same Stories, Same Laughs
We forget to eat. We forget why we walked into the next room. We tell the same stories over and over — and laugh every time like it’s the first.
I once told him he used to have a beautiful white car in his 30s. He swore he didn’t — until I reminded him where he worked. “You’re right!” he said, like I’d pulled out a secret file from 1991. 😂
He Named My Car… and Forgot
The morning I left his house for Vegas, he looked at my car and said, “Look at Poopsie.” And so she became Poopsie.
He doesn’t remember that now.
But sometimes, when he’s feeling sweet, he calls me Poopsie — and then quickly corrects himself: “No wait… that was the car, not you!” 🙃
Some Things Fade, Some Things Stick
Everyone else calls him by his middle name. I call him by his first. To this day, neither of us knows why. He told me, “It’d sound weird if you called me what everyone else does.” And he’s right — because my name for him is mine.
This Is What Love Looks Like Now
We don’t remember it all.
But we remember the important things.
Like how to make each other laugh.
Like the comfort of a voice you’ve known for decades.
Like what it feels like to be fully yourself with someone, even if you forget the details.
Our memory may come and go…
But our bond never forgets.
“We may forget names, but we don’t forget love.” 💛🚗🌻
