Bean’s Corner: I Supervised the Birds Today

Let me tell you something…

This morning started off real suspicious.

My human was up early, sitting in her tower, staring out the window like she was expecting somebody.

Rain on the glass.
Gray sky.
Coffee smell in the air.

And I’m thinking:

“Okay… what are we watching?”

At first, I couldn’t see anything. Just her popping up and down out of her chair like she lost something.

Up.
Down.
Lean forward.
Sit back.

Over and over again.

I said to myself…

“She’s doing entirely too much this morning.” 🐱

Then I heard them.

Birds.

Little fast ones too… moving like they late for work.

Now I was interested.

I jumped up to observe… because as you know, I am in charge of all window activity.

And then… finally…

One of them showed himself.

Perched up high on a pole like he owned the neighborhood.

Didn’t move. Didn’t flinch.

Just sat there like:

“Yes… I’m here.”

We decided to call him Ash.

Ash got that calm energy.
The kind that doesn’t need to prove anything.

A little while later, another one pulled up.

Not too close… not too far…

Just enough to say:

“I’m here too… but I’m not doing the most.”

That one?

That’s Smoke.

Now listen…

Ash acts like the supervisor.
Smoke acts like security.

And me?

I am management. 🐱

While all this was going on, my human was getting her exercise in.

She didn’t even realize it.

Up and down out that chair so many times, I almost asked her if she needed help.

But I let her learn on her own.

You’re welcome.

At some point, I realized she had finally calmed down.

Her energy got quiet… steady…

So I did what any responsible cat would do.

I jumped in her lap.

No warning. No permission.

Just:

“This is where I’m sitting now.”

And let me tell you…

She didn’t move.

As it should be.

We sat there for a minute, just watching.

Rain slowing down…
Sky opening up a little…
Ash and Smoke coming and going like they had a schedule.

And I thought to myself…

“This is a good day.”

No chaos.
No loud energy.
No running around.

Just:
My human in her chair
Me in my rightful place
And two birds outside minding their business

Later on, she started talking to people on that headset…

And I could tell…

She was doing that thing she does.

The calm voice.
The listening.
Turning people from frustrated to friendly.

I don’t know exactly what she says…

But I do know this:

People like her.

And honestly?

I do too.

Now if you’ll excuse me…

I have a nap scheduled.

Supervising is exhausting.
