ATasteOfFlava|Are We On The Same Page

Tuesday A Taste of Flava
Are We on the Same Page?

A lot was weighing on my mind last night, and I struggled to sleep.

I woke up and took care of my first morning responsibility for work, posting the Call Out. But my mind kept going back to my pre-surgery appointment the day before.

What did everything mean?

Then the lab reports started coming in, and I had no clue what I was looking at. I want everything to be okay with my health. I don’t want anything to hinder my ability to move forward with surgery as planned.

Then came the MyChart messages from two different people working on the same paperwork. Reading their messages, I couldn’t tell whether they were communicating with each other. I was being asked for information and documents I had already sent.

That was frustrating.

I’m the kind of person who needs clear, bulleted steps:

  • What do I need to do?
  • What have you already received?
  • What is still missing?
  • Who is completing what?
  • What happens next?

Please help me understand the process so I know I’m following the instructions correctly. And when I send the requested documents, please confirm that you received them.

Two different people.
The same task.
Two different communication styles.

And I still felt a disconnect.

I already woke up in pain. I was carrying uncertainty from my pre-surgery appointment. Now more questions were piling up:

  • Is everyone on the same page?
  • Am I doing everything I need to do?
  • Am I still a go for surgery as scheduled?

I ended up taking today off. Trying to care for patients on the phones while sorting through my own health concerns and paperwork was too much today. My emotions were already raw. After posting the Call Out this morning, I started crying.

I also recognize that I may be feeling a disconnect while the people helping me believe everything is on track. Sometimes I question whether I’m understanding someone else’s communication style the way they intended.

But when there’s no clear confirmation, I’m left not knowing.

I work with patients, and today I understand their overwhelm a little more deeply. When you’re hurting, worried, and trying hard to do everything in a timely manner, even one unclear message can feel like another thing you have to figure out.

I have two weeks before my scheduled surgery. I want to feel prepared, but today I feel like I’m in limbo—waiting for clarity about where things stand.

Have you ever felt that way?

What do you do to calm yourself down and trust the process when you still have unanswered questions?
