How to Set the Mood When You’re Struggling to Read 📚
Sometimes we want to read… but our mind is busy, the day has been long, and it’s hard to truly settle in. When that happens, creating the right mood can turn reading from a task into a pleasure.
Here’s how I like to make it work:
1. Create Your Spot
Find the coziest corner you can — a favorite chair, your bed, or a soft couch cushion. Add a blanket, a throw pillow, or anything that makes it feel inviting.
2. Set the Scene
Silence your phone or put it on Do Not Disturb. If you enjoy background noise, play some gentle instrumental music or light a candle. Bonus points if you make yourself a warm drink.
3. Pause Before You Start
Before even opening your book, take a few deep breaths to release the day. This tiny moment helps your mind transition from “busy” to “present.”
4. Read Slowly
Give yourself permission to read at your own pace. This isn’t a race — it’s an experience. Let the words sink in.
5. Reflect
When you finish a chapter (or even just a few pages), pause and think: What’s one thing I’m taking from this? You can write it down or simply carry it with you.
6. Be Grateful for the Moment
Even if you only read for ten minutes, you’ve carved out space for yourself. That’s a win.
Reading should feel like a gift — not a chore. And sometimes, all it takes is the right mood to make the pages pull you in.
