🐾 Bean’s Corner: The Tale of Susan Snickerdoodle

Simply Flava | Life & Storytelling

Bean had been supervising another long morning of phone calls when Lady Flava took one last call before lunch. The voice on the other end was gentle and full of years — 83 of them, to be exact.

He asked a question, chuckled, then said,

“You sound so sweet, Susan Snickerdoodle.”

Bean’s ears perked up. Susan what now?

Lady Flava laughed, caught off guard, and decided not to correct him. The man continued, rolling right into childhood stories about his daughter, his tone warm like a favorite song. He shared her riddle — one that had lived in their family for decades:

“What side of the horse has the most hair?”

Lady Flava thought for a moment and answered, “The neck?”

He paused, letting the silence stretch, then burst out laughing.

“No, Susan Snickerdoodle… the outside!”

Bean’s tail flicked. Classic human humor.

Turns out, that clever little girl who made her daddy laugh all those years ago grew up to become a Creative Director for The New York Times.

Even Bean had to admit — that was impressive for a kitten who told riddles like a pro.

When the call ended, Lady Flava sat for a second, smiling. It was one of those rare work moments that remind you that life still has sweetness tucked inside the noise — even if you have to answer the phone to find it.

Bean stretched and purred.

“I like Susan Snickerdoodle,” he said.

“She makes the humans laugh — and that makes my human smile.”
