Letting Go, Focusing on Pretty Things
The first patient of the day came in for Dr. O. He asked me for water, and since a fresh delivery had just arrived, I told him I would bring some out and fill the bowl. A simple moment, but it opened the door for a deeper conversation.
We discovered we were the same age. As we stood there talking, he shared wisdom that struck me right where I needed it: stress is often tied to the past we cannot change and the future that has not yet arrived. He said he has learned later in life to let go quickly, and to turn his mind toward something positive—even if it’s as simple as looking at something pretty.
We smiled at each other. He thanked me for my kindness and for making him smile that morning. I thanked him in return—for reminding me of the power of letting go. After his appointment, he came back out just to thank me again and wish me a great weekend.
The very next patient I checked in, one of Dr. D’s, also thanked me for my kindness and wished me a good day. Again, I returned the blessing.
🌻 Reflections
What a reminder that kindness and wisdom don’t stay in one place—they ripple. One patient’s words filled me with peace, and the next carried the same spirit out the door. Sometimes it only takes a moment of connection to shift the energy of an entire day.
Today I was reminded:
Let go of what is past. Stop worrying about a future not yet here. Focus on something pretty, something that brings peace. Share kindness freely—it multiplies.
That, to me, is the gift of being a seasoned soul in this space.
