Tuesday’s A Taste of Flava
Keeping Everyone in the Loop
Dear Friends,
I have a surgery date, and I’m excited. After all the appointments, questions, pain, and waiting, it feels good to know that a plan is moving forward.
I’ve been keeping my work team and care team updated. I shared what’s happening and talked about making sure my work is covered while I’m away. I want to do my part to keep everyone informed and help things go smoothly.
But I also had to be honest about how I’m doing today. My pain was so bad that I had to stop working. I work from home, but being at home doesn’t make it possible to work through pain that isn’t under control.
I tried once again to reach my primary care team to ask about medication for pain relief. I spent a long time waiting, and when I finally spoke with someone, I explained that I didn’t feel well and the pain had stopped me from working. I was told my concern would be sent for urgent review.
I understand that clinics are busy, and I know it can take time to hear back. But when you’re hurting, waiting can feel like a whole other burden. I know that from my own work with patients, and today I felt it from the other side.
I’m still excited about surgery and hopeful about what comes next. I’m also listening to my body and being honest when I can’t keep going. Both things can be true: I can look forward to the future and still need help getting through today.
One step at a time. 🌻
