Why Health and Wellness Matters to Me
I hope you realize, as you read my blogs, that health and wellness is a huge passion of mine.
That passion didn’t come out of nowhere. For six years, I worked in a rehabilitation hospital, caring for patients one on one. I also staffed nurses and CNAs, scheduled appointments, arranged transportation, coordinated MRI and CT appointments, and worked with the physicians who rounded on our patients.
Now I work with highly sought-after neurosurgeons who treat the spine and brain. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot. And when I don’t know something, I know where I can go to ask questions and find reliable information.
I write about subjects that affect our senior community because these conversations matter. We deserve to understand what’s happening with our health, know what questions to ask, and feel more prepared when we talk with our medical teams.
And for the past three years, I’ve also been a patient at my own clinic and at different clinics throughout the hospital where I work. I’ve experienced the questions that pop up, the challenges of navigating care, and the feelings that come with being on the patient side of the desk.
So yes, you may see me repeat information. Maybe I forgot I wrote about it already. Maybe I’m looking at the same subject from a different angle. Or maybe I simply believe it’s worth repeating.
If you have a general question, ask me. I may be able to help. If you’re not sure how to ask your medical team for information, I can help you find the words. And if there’s a topic you’d like me to write about, let me know.
I cannot give medical advice. But I can share what I’ve learned, help you think of questions, or point you toward resources that may help.
Some days I call myself a patient advocate. Other days, I put my therapist hat on. Either way, my heart is in helping people feel heard and better prepared.
We can grow in our health and wellness knowledge together.
Every Tuesday, I publish my series:
