Thursday’s A Taste of Flava
Comfortable in This Chapter, Curious About the Next
Today I have a burst of mind energy. 🤣
I’m processing things.
I have become comfortable with the life I’ve created as a person living with a disability and limited mobility. I actually love the purpose I find through my job and my blog writing. They remind me that I still have something meaningful to contribute.
I have grown into the Lady Flava who embraces aging and speaks honestly about the struggles that can come with it. I believe part of my purpose in this season is to encourage, educate, and support my seasoned sisters and brothers, especially around Health and Wellness.
I don’t feel like I’m missing out.
Now, do I jump on the phone to catch up with people or call just to say, “I love you”? No, I don’t. And I’m sure some people have feelings about that. But it has nothing to do with how much they matter to me.
Let me explain.
For the past three and a half years, I have continued working a full-time job while living with pain and mobility challenges. A good portion of that time, I have worked from home.
And for eight hours a day, I speak with people living with chronic spine pain, aneurysms, brain conditions, and tumors. People who are scared, hurting, frustrated, or waiting for answers.
Those conversations require attention, patience, and emotional energy.
So when my workday ends, I honestly don’t feel like talking anymore. My weekends are my time to chill, replenish, and prepare for the coming week.
I can love you and still need quiet.
Over these past three years, I have also been tending to my mental and physical well-being. I needed time to process and heal from my experience of living in Las Vegas for six years. Some healing takes longer than people realize, especially when much of it happens privately.
And now, I’m preparing to turn the page.
With my hip surgeries ahead, I’m hopeful about what life could look like with less pain and more mobility. Being able to get out when I choose. Getting back behind the wheel when I’m healed and cleared to drive. Having more freedom to decide how I spend my time.
It will be interesting to meet the version of me who has recovered from both hip surgeries.
What will I want to do? Where will I want to go? What might I discover that I haven’t even considered yet?
I love the life I’ve built in my tower. I’m also curious about the possibilities beyond it. 🌻
Life keeps changing for all of us. Nothing stays the same—even a way of life we’ve grown comfortable with.
Have you ever experienced a major life change that opened up more possibilities than you had become accustomed to? How did it feel to step into that new chapter?
