Monday A Taste of Flava
Tomorrow, My Healing Takes Another Step Forward 🌻
Today is a day I am so excited is finally here.
It’s my last workday before surgery, and tomorrow begins a new chapter. 🎉
On September 15th, I saw one of the spine surgeons where I work who also has a strong background in hips. Another hip surgeon felt my struggles were coming more from my spine, which brought me back to the clinic where I work.
I had more X-rays taken of my spine and hips. This doctor took the time to show me exactly what was happening. He overlaid the images of my hips with healthy hips so I could see the difference. Then he examined me and found that I could not rotate my hips.
The diagnosis? Bilateral bone-on-bone hip arthritis, with bone spurs on both hips. No cartilage left.
He told me, “Susan, this is why you struggle to walk and are in so much pain.”
Let me tell you, having someone show me what was wrong and explain what I had been experiencing meant so much.
Of course, I asked if he could do my hip replacements. But his contract with our clinic only allows him to perform spine surgery. He is newer to our team and came with a phenomenal reputation, so yes, I was disappointed.
But he didn’t leave it there.
He took it upon himself to call his hip surgeon colleagues to find someone who could get me in right away.
And he made it happen.
For that, I am forever grateful. 🙏🏼
Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, 2026, I will be getting my right hip replaced. Check-in is at 9 a.m.
I am sooooooooooo excited! 👏🎉
My grandbaby has been helping me get my tower together. We also have a setup on the main floor in case I need to stay there for a few days. There are 28 stairs to my tower, so we have been preparing for what I may need.
Having my grandbaby help me get things organized has been a blessing all by itself. ❣️
I know many people feel nervous before surgery. Me? I’m excited. I felt this same way when I had my knees replaced. Now it’s time for my hips, and my left hip will be next.
I am ready to move forward.
Many people struggle with arthritis. Learn about what is happening in your body. Ask questions. Understand your options. Take a strong role in finding ways to bring more comfort into your everyday life.
Your quality of life matters.
I have been living with these struggles for three years. Finally, someone in my clinic identified what was happening with my hips and helped put a solution in motion.
And yes, I recognize that my job has given me access and connections that everyone does not have. I am grateful for that, and I don’t take it lightly.
In the three and a half years I have worked here, I have also built relationships with the doctors and staff. We work together, we communicate, and we get to know one another as people.
Remember that. Relationships are important in life. People help people they like and trust, and sometimes those relationships open a door when you need it most.
Everyone deserves to be heard and helped. I’m deeply thankful for the people who heard me and helped me get here.
Today, I’m finishing up work. Tomorrow, I’m showing up ready for my next step.
And yes, I am ready! 🎉🙏🏼
