🌻 Genuine Words, Genuine Connections

There’s something powerful about speaking from the heart — not just going through motions, but truly affirming others with honesty and kindness. I was reminded of this in two beautiful moments with patients and their families.

🌟 The New Patient

A new patient came in to see Dr. Oskouian for the first time. Before he went back, I told him, “I have to tell you, he’s the best. Chief of Complex Spine, a top surgeon — but also such a nice, thorough, and honest man.”

I suggested he stop by afterward and let me know what he thought. And he did. He came back to tell me, “You were right,” and thanked me. That simple exchange reminded me how words can calm a nervous heart and help someone walk into an appointment with confidence.

🌟 The Returning Husband

Another time, a patient’s husband grabbed Dr. Oskouian’s and Dr. David’s picture cards. I shared what I knew personally: “Dr. Oskouian is a top-notch surgeon and so kind, and Dr. David is my favorite — he’s my doctor.”

The husband smiled and replied, “I agree with you on both doctors, because I see both of them myself.” That moment turned into laughter, connection, and affirmation for us both.

🌻 The Heart of People Skills

These aren’t big, dramatic moments — they’re small, genuine exchanges. But they matter. They remind me that people skills are about more than politeness. They’re about honesty, warmth, and presence. When you speak truth with kindness, people feel it. And more often than not, they reflect that goodness right back.

In a world where tension and worry can weigh heavy, being able to offer a reassuring word — and watch it light up someone’s experience — is a gift I don’t take for granted.
