🏀 Roots & Legacy: Remembering Lenny Wilkens — Seattle’s Gentleman of the Game
As a child, the Seattle SuperSonics weren’t just a basketball team — they were a part of the rhythm of our home. Game nights meant gathering around the TV, the hum of excitement in the room, and the constant name on everyone’s lips — Lenny Wilkens.

He wasn’t just a player or a coach — he was Seattle basketball. His calm presence, his quiet leadership, his deep respect for the game and the people who played it… that’s what made him unforgettable.
Lenny Wilkens carried himself like a gentleman on and off the court — patient, strategic, humble, and deeply human. He showed us what grace under pressure looked like, long before that phrase became trendy.
I had hoped the Sonics would return while he was still here to see it — the way Seattle remembers, celebrates, and still believes in that green and gold spirit. But his legacy never left this city. It lives in the stories, the highlights, the echoes of every “Go Sonics!” yelled across decades.

Leonard Randolph Wilkens (October 28, 1937 – November 9, 2025) left behind more than trophies and records. He left a blueprint for excellence rooted in integrity, humility, and purpose.
Three times a Hall of Famer — as player, coach, and part of the legendary 1992 Dream Team — Lenny wasn’t just a name in the history books. He was part of the heartbeat of Seattle itself.
He’ll always be remembered as one of the greatest to ever do it — and one of the kindest to ever lead.
