What’s your dream job?

Retirement: The Dream Job I Never Knew I Wanted
When I was younger, my dream job was always something creative—something that allowed me to serve others and bring value to their lives. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to work in spaces that aligned with that vision. From creating a hub for artists at Flava Coffee House to amplifying voices through Lady Flava News, I’ve lived a life full of purpose and passion.
But at 64, with some physical health challenges creeping in, my perspective has shifted. Today, my dream job would be simple: retirement.
Why Retirement Feels Like the Ultimate Dream
Don’t get me wrong, I like my job and appreciate the people I work with. They make the challenging days bearable, and I’m grateful for that. But the idea of waking up leisurely, setting my own schedule, and pursuing what brings me joy feels like the ultimate luxury.
In my dream version of retirement, I’d spend my days taking pictures, interviewing people, and writing blogs. I’d have the freedom to explore, create, and connect on my own terms—without the constraints of a traditional work schedule.
The Reality of Retirement
Unfortunately, the reality of retirement in today’s economy feels distant. With social security retirement age creeping higher and the cost of living constantly rising, the idea of stepping away from work before 70 feels more like a fantasy than a plan.
But that doesn’t stop me from dreaming. Even now, I find moments to embrace creativity and live in alignment with my passions. Every photo I take, every story I write, and every conversation I have is a small step toward the life I envision.
A New Perspective on Dream Jobs
Maybe the real dream job isn’t tied to a career or retirement. Maybe it’s about creating a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling—whatever stage you’re in. For me, that means finding joy in the little things, cherishing the people I meet, and always making space for creativity.
So, here’s to dreaming—whether it’s about retirement, a creative pursuit, or simply a life well-lived.
