Hey… We Tried: A Day in the Life of Real Healthcare
By Lady Flava
Some days at work flow smoothly. Others? They spin like a record on the wrong speed—and somehow, you just keep dancing with it.
Today was one of those days.
It started with one patient. One appointment. One family visiting from out of town.
What followed? A full-blown care coordination marathon that tested my phone room endurance, my patience, and my very soul. 😅
This wasn’t just any appointment—it was with Dr. O, one of the most respected neurosurgeons I know—who also happens to appreciate a little leopard print flair and good humor in high places. 😄
From transportation issues to last-minute time switches, from “can it be virtual?” to “wait, no—make it in person again,” I must’ve walked from the phone room to clinic and back at least a dozen times.
The facility couldn’t transport the patient.
The family wanted to join the virtual appointment in person.
Then they couldn’t access the link.
Then… well… you get the picture.
Each time something shifted, I regrouped. I adapted. I stayed calm.
Because at the heart of it all was a patient who deserved care, and a family who simply wanted to be present.
And when it all finally fell apart?
Two of Dr. O’s team came to the phone room to update me personally.
I thanked them.
They thanked me.
And we all shrugged with that kind of tired smile you wear at the end of a good fight.
“Hey… we tried.”
💛 Final Thoughts
This is the part of healthcare no one sees.
The quiet scramble.
The invisible back-and-forth.
The human effort behind what seems like a “simple appointment.”
Today didn’t go as planned—but we tried. And sometimes, that effort is the most important thing of all.
