When a Coworker Pops Up in Your Feed… What Do You Do?
You’re scrolling. Minding your business.
And then—boom.
A familiar face shows up in your feed or “People You May Know.”
A coworker.
Now your thumb pauses.
Do you:
hit like and keep it moving?
send a friend request?
or pretend you didn’t see a thing and scroll on?
I’ve done all three—depending on the season, the relationship, and the job.
Back when I worked in Vegas, social media lines were blurry. I was friends with coworkers. We shared laughs, memories, and after-hours life. It fit that chapter.
But now?
Different season. Different boundaries.
I’m not friends with any of my current coworkers on social media. Not because I don’t like them—but because I’ve learned something about peace.
Then today at lunch… TikTok did what TikTok does 🤣
It casually dropped one of my coworkers into my feed.
I couldn’t resist. I posted it to our work Teams chat.
Turns out she just got a new kitten named Stevie 🐈⬛
Her response?
“Yes yes, I’ve been found out… I am a mother now.”
We laughed. No awkwardness. No overstep. Just a human moment in the middle of a busy workday.
And that’s the sweet spot for me now.
Connection without overexposure.
Warmth without entanglement.
Community without crossing my own lines.
So what about you?
When a coworker shows up in your feed…
Do you tap like, send the request, or keep scrolling?
No wrong answer.
Just what fits your season.
