What do you love about where you live?

What I Love About Where I Live

While I’ve shared the challenges of crime in my community, today I want to highlight the things I truly appreciate about my home in West Seattle.

My oldest daughter and grandbaby live in a charming three-story townhouse, where I occupy the third floor. My space is cozy and independent, featuring a good-sized room with large windows on two sides. I have a comfortable sitting area with a couch and TV, and the large bathroom and walk-in closet add to the appeal. It’s wonderful to have my own space, yet feel connected to my family just below me.

My bedroom is definitely my favorite part of the house. From my windows, I can watch families come and go, and I often see birds flitting around in the tree outside. The sunsets here are stunning, and even on cloudy days or rainy nights, I find joy in gazing out at the ever-changing sky.

The brightness and cheeriness of my living space lift my spirits. I love waking up to daylight on weekends, sometimes just lying in bed and soaking in the view. It’s a simple pleasure that brings me peace.

Despite the backdrop of gunshots, speeding cars, and sirens, I’ve carved out my own sanctuary. It’s disheartening to acknowledge that crime has become a norm in my neighborhood, yet there are still many positives to appreciate.

Occasionally, I hear the distant sounds of trains and ferry whistles, which remind me of the vibrant life around me. We live in a walkable community, surrounded by stores, coffee shops, cafes, bars with live music, and quirky novelty shops. Being close to downtown offers easy access to the city’s excitement while still providing a refuge from the hustle and bustle.

If we could eliminate the crime and homelessness in our area, this community would truly shine as an amazing place to live. So today, I take a moment to celebrate the pros of my environment and express my gratitude for the personal living space that offers me peace and joy.
