A&E|The Challenges of Wanting to Experience LIVE Entertainment

Soon, Lady Flava Will Step Out Again

Although I haven’t ventured out to enjoy live entertainment since returning home to Seattle, I’ve remained connected through the internet and social media. I keep an eye on what’s happening around the Pacific Northwest, especially when it comes to live entertainment — it’s still something I deeply care about, even from a distance.

But I’ve noticed some challenges that make the idea of getting out feel less inviting.

For one, the cost of mainstream entertainment — whether it’s concerts, plays, musicals, or even a night at the movies — has skyrocketed. I look at ticket prices and honestly wonder how the average person manages to afford these experiences. Of course, I understand that major shows are full productions, meant to be immersive and unforgettable. But still, the price tag can feel out of reach, especially when you factor in other costs.

Local indie music showcases, the heartbeat of underground culture, seem to be fewer and farther between. These were once the spaces where creativity thrived and new talent was discovered. I miss that energy. I miss being part of that community.

Then there are logistical concerns. Parking is either difficult to find, expensive, or both. And to be completely honest, safety at night is a real concern — not just downtown, but even in my own neighborhood. Since returning to Seattle, I’ve seen how much crime has escalated. It’s something I deal with daily, even just trying to park outside my home. So the idea of exploring nightlife alone just doesn’t feel safe or practical.

Despite all this, my passion for creativity and cultural exploration hasn’t faded — it’s simply on pause. Health challenges have kept me home, but I’m slowly healing. The pain is less intense, my strength is returning, and with that comes hope. Hope that I’ll soon be able to move through my city again — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.

I can’t wait to start writing again — reviewing creative events, restaurants, galleries, and small businesses. I want to shine a light on the indie voices that still exist, even if they’re harder to find these days. I know they’re out there. I’ve always believed in the power of grassroots creativity to shape culture.

For now, I’m taking it one day at a time. But know this — soon, Lady Flava will be back out there, exploring the vibrant life of Seattle and its surrounding areas.

Stay tuned — this is just the beginning of my next chapter.

With love and anticipation,
