🌻 Kindness in Conversation: Learning From a Patient
Opening Reflection
Sometimes kindness isn’t about big gestures—it’s about listening, being curious, and showing genuine interest in someone’s story.
The Encounter🌻
Today, a patient told me that the windows in our clinic are sash windows. He explained how they worked, and it sparked a memory of my childhood home with cords on each side of the frame.
He went further, sharing stories of carpentry work he did in Oregon, including building without nails and how people once used oiled paper in place of glass.
The Exchange 🌻
While he was still waiting to see Dr. O, I researched sash windows and shared what I found. He lit up—it meant something to him that I cared enough to learn more about what he was telling me.
The Lesson 🌻
This small act reminded me:
✨ Kindness can be as simple as curiosity.
✨ Respect can be shown by valuing someone’s story.
✨ Connection grows when we listen with genuine interest.
Closing Invitation
Next time someone shares a piece of their history or knowledge with you, lean in. Listen. Ask a question. Do a little research. You never know how deeply a small act of kindness might brighten someone’s day—or your own.
