💘 Saturday Real Talk
Do You Celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Why or Why Not?
Be honest.
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day…
or do you side-eye it a little?
Valentine’s Day has layers.
It started as a Christian feast day honoring Saint Valentine.
Some historians connect it to ancient Roman festivals like Lupercalia.
Romance wasn’t even part of it until centuries later — medieval poets helped turn it into a love story.
Now?
It’s flowers.
Chocolates.
Heart-shaped everything.
Restaurants booked solid.
And about a billion cards exchanged every year.
It’s the second biggest card holiday after Christmas.
Some people love it.
Some people feel pressured by it.
Some feel left out.
Some go all in.
So here’s the Real Talk question:
Is it about love…
or is it about expectation?
Today, Valentine’s Day means different things to different people:
• Romantic love
• Friendship (Galentine’s)
• Family
• Self-care
• Or opting out completely
And let’s be honest — it’s also one of the most commercialized holidays on the calendar.
But here’s where I land:
Love should not be scheduled once a year.
If you need a holiday to express appreciation, that’s worth examining.
At the same time… there’s nothing wrong with celebrating intentionally.
A thoughtful gesture.
A handwritten note.
Quality time.
It doesn’t have to be expensive.
It doesn’t have to be dramatic.
It doesn’t have to be forced.
So I’m curious…
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Why or why not?
No judgment.
Just real talk.
