Do You Have a Pet Companion?
Do you have a pet companion?
My family has had dogs… cats… sometimes dogs and cats at the same time… for as long as I can remember. From the time I was born until now, there has almost always been a furry presence in our home.
Right now, we have two cats.
Mustang — aka Musty.
And Lamborghini — aka Ghini.
Yes. My grandcats. 😻
Musty is my daily buddy, especially since I’ve been working from home.
He hangs out with me in my tower like he pays rent.
He guards the skies and communicates with the birds outside the window.
He pushes against my legs when he wants attention.
Sometimes he settles under my feet.
Sometimes he claims his throne next to the window.
And during lunch… or after I clock off work… we lay together on my electric blanket. Cozy. Quiet. Regulated.
There is something about that warmth, that steady breathing, that soft presence that just settles the nervous system.
I talk to him. I talk to Ghini too.
Ghini prefers protecting the stairs to the tower. That’s his post. He takes it seriously. But he pops in from time to time to let his presence be known.
I went six years in Vegas without a pet.
Part of it was practical. That heat. Running AC constantly just didn’t feel right. I couldn’t imagine keeping a pet comfortable in that environment without cranking the electric bill through the roof.
But I missed having that companionship.
I love having pets.
They don’t ask for much.
They don’t judge your mood.
They don’t care about workplace restructuring.
They don’t care if you got all four blogs done.
They just show up.
And sometimes, that’s enough.
Pets bring:
• Comfort
• Routine
• Unconditional presence
• A reason to get up
• A reason to slow down
There’s something grounding about caring for another living being. It pulls you out of your head and into the moment.
So I’m curious.
Do you have a pet companion?
And what do they bring into your life?
Because in this house… they bring warmth, laughter, and a whole lot of cozy.
