Friday A Taste of Flava

The Gift of a Better Morning

Good Morning Friends,

Yesterday, my body was reminding me that healing isn’t always a straight path. My pain was much higher, and every movement required a little more determination. It was one of those days where I simply had to listen to my body and give it the grace it was asking for.

This morning was completely different.

I slept well. Before taking my medication, my pain was much lower. I made my way to the bathroom with my walker and was able to stand a little taller. That may not sound like much to some people, but when you’ve been dealing with chronic pain and mobility challenges, those small improvements feel like huge victories.

Afterward, I completed my morning exercises:

  • 30 leg squeezes
  • 30 kick backs
  • 30 ankle pumps

Then I made my way to my favorite place in the house—my tower window.

The sky over Seattle was a beautiful shade of blue, and it seemed as though my outdoor friends had been waiting for me.

Poe was keeping watch from the top of the cedar tree while two other crows joined him nearby. Before long, several more crows gathered in the evergreen, looking as if they were holding their own morning meeting. Then Chip and Dale appeared together, climbing the utility pole and scampering across the cables with all the confidence in the world.

I couldn’t stop smiling.

It’s amazing how quickly life can remind us that difficult days don’t always stay difficult. Yesterday, I was focused on getting through my pain. Today, I found myself focused on blue skies, crows, squirrels, and gratitude.

I don’t take mornings like this for granted.

Living with chronic pain has taught me something valuable. We can’t always choose how our body feels when we wake up, but when our body gives us a little break, it’s important to notice it, appreciate it, and soak it all in.

Sometimes joy isn’t found in extraordinary moments.

Sometimes it’s found in standing a little taller…

Looking out the window…

And realizing that three crows in a cedar tree and two squirrels playing together can completely change the direction of your morning.

Today, I am grateful.

Blessings,
Lady Flava ❣️🌻
