Can You Be Your Best Self With Multiple Distractions?

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed something that has changed in my life.

I have fewer distractions.

And honestly…

I’m grateful for that.

When I was younger, life seemed to pull me in a hundred different directions. There was work, family, obligations, errands, friendships, and always something competing for my attention.

Today, my life is much quieter.

That doesn’t mean I don’t stay busy. It simply means I’m more intentional about where I spend my time and energy.

I’ve heard many younger people talk about how difficult it is to stay focused. They’ll start a project, then a text message comes in. They check social media. Someone calls. Another notification pops up. Before they know it, an hour has passed and very little has been accomplished.

But let’s be honest…

This isn’t just a young person’s challenge.

Many adults struggle with distractions too.

Sometimes they’re external.

Our phones.
Television.
Emails.
Social media.
The constant noise of everyday life.

Sometimes they’re internal.

Worry.
Fear.
Stress.
Overthinking.
Self-doubt.

Those distractions can be just as powerful as anything happening around us.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something important.

Not everything deserves my attention.

If something doesn’t bring value to my life, help me grow, strengthen a relationship, or move me toward one of my goals, I’m much more comfortable letting it go.

Protecting your peace isn’t selfish.

Protecting your focus isn’t selfish.

Sometimes becoming your best self isn’t about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about allowing fewer things to compete for your attention.

So today I leave you with this question…

What distractions could you let go of that would allow you to become the very best version of yourself?

Sometimes less noise creates more peace.

And with more peace…

We often become our very best selves.
