The Right Message in the Right Place

Have you ever noticed that every conversation has a purpose?

A text message with your best friend sounds different than an email to your boss.

A family dinner conversation sounds different than a meeting at work.

The same should be true for our communication tools.

Being friendly is important. I enjoy laughing with my coworkers, and I believe a little humor can brighten someone’s day.

But there is also a time and place for everything.

When a communication channel is designed to share important business information, the goal should be to make that information easy to find—not harder.

If people have to scroll through jokes, side conversations, or unrelated comments just to find an important update, the purpose of that communication channel begins to get lost.

Good communication isn’t just about what we say.

It’s about thinking about our audience.

  • Is this the right place?
  • Is this the right time?
  • Does everyone in this conversation need this message?
  • Am I making it easier or harder for others to find the information they need?

Those are questions I try to ask myself before I hit “Send.”

Communication isn’t about talking more.

It’s about communicating with purpose.

Sometimes the most respectful thing we can do is make someone else’s job a little easier.

Today’s Real Talk Question:

Do you think people communicate differently depending on the audience, or do most people communicate the same way everywhere?

Blessings, Lady Flava 🌻
