Labor Day | A Taste of Flava
The Koshi Family: Complicated, Loving, Slightly Chaotic—and Meaningful in the End
Yesterday, we celebrated my oldest daughter’s birthday.
The day did not unfold according to any carefully organized plan. There were changing moods, uncertain arrangements, delayed decisions, and several moments when nobody seemed to know what was happening next.
In other words, it was a family day. 😂
But little by little, everything began to shift.
Gifts arrived.
Flowers entered the room.
Family stopped by.
The girls spent time together.
The sisters talked, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company.
Even the grandcats became part of the activity—one greeting visitors and the other finding a quiet corner to hide until the excitement settled down.
From my tower, I could hear laughter moving through our home.
That sound meant more to me than a perfectly planned celebration ever could.
Families are complicated.
We have different personalities, communication styles, expectations, and ways of showing love. We can misunderstand each other, irritate each other, and still find our way back to laughter before the day is over.
Sometimes the person you expected does not show up in the way you hoped.
Sometimes someone else arrives carrying exactly the joy the day needed.
Sometimes love is not polished or perfectly timed.
It comes through a thoughtful gift, a bouquet of flowers, an apology, a shared laugh, a conversation between sisters, or simply being present.
By the end of the evening, we had food, laughter, and a home filled with the people who wanted to be there.
The day was not perfect—but it was special.
That is our family.
Complicated.
Loving.
Slightly chaotic.
And meaningful in the end.
That is us. 💜🌻
