If you could have something named after you, what would it be?

The Dream of Lady Flava News: An Artistic Space for Creatives
If I were ever afforded the opportunity again to own and operate a business, I know exactly what I would call it—Lady Flava News. It would be more than just a business; it would be a space built on the foundation of inclusivity, creativity, and support for artists of all kinds.
In a world where many creatives struggle to find resources, workspaces, or the right support, I envision a place where they could thrive. This space would be a haven for all forms of art, offering a blend of different creative environments and resources. Let me walk you through the concept I once dreamed up, many years ago—a vision I still hold dear.
The All-Inclusive Artistic Space
My vision for Lady Flava News would include a variety of spaces for different creative needs. Here’s how I would organize it:
- Coffee House and Creative Store: A cozy, welcoming spot where people can come together to drink coffee, buy unique, locally-made art, and mingle with fellow creatives.
- Performance Theater: A stage for artists of all disciplines—musicians, actors, dancers, and more—to showcase their work. Whether it’s a spoken word night, a theater production, or an indie band performance, the theater would be a space for creative expression.
- Print Shop: A place where artists can print their work, from posters to flyers to zines. A resource for artists to have tangible items that support their careers and vision.
- Journalism Studio: For writers, bloggers, and journalists to gather, work on projects, and collaborate. It could also house community-driven journalism efforts, amplifying voices in the arts and beyond.
- Recording Studio: A high-quality space where musicians, podcasters, and audio creators can record their work. A place where music comes to life and voices are heard.
- Rehearsal Studios: A variety of spaces where performers can practice, whether they’re actors working through a new play, musicians rehearsing for a gig, or dancers perfecting their routines.
- Dance Studio: A dedicated area for dancers of all levels to practice and teach. Movement and expression have a way of unlocking new creative pathways, and this would be the space for it.
- Art Studio: A creative space where painters, sculptors, and mixed media artists could explore their craft. A place to experiment and create without limitations.
- Daycare: A childcare space for artist parents who need a safe place for their children while they focus on their work. The ability to balance creativity and family life is vital, and this would make it easier for parents in the arts.
- Affordable Artist Living Studios: Providing affordable living spaces for artists, so they can focus on their craft without the burden of expensive housing. This would be an opportunity for creators to live in an inspiring, supportive environment.
- Caretaker Living Space: A dedicated area for caretakers to live on-site and provide assistance for any elderly or disabled artists or community members who need help. Supporting the physical well-being of creatives is as important as supporting their artistic expression.
- Office Space: For freelancers, entrepreneurs, and creative professionals to work in a quiet, productive environment. A place to build businesses, work on projects, and grow their brand.
- Off-Street Parking & Street Parking: Ensuring that accessibility is a priority for all visitors, with ample parking for those coming in to enjoy the space or work.
A Non-Profit That Gives Back
The beauty of Lady Flava News would be that it would operate as a non-profit, providing jobs for creatives through grant contracts. It would be funded by grants, donations, and partnerships with other organizations that care about the arts. The for-profit side of the business would come from the coffee shop, creative store, and the use of the various spaces.
What makes this model so powerful is the direct impact it would have on the community. Not only would it give struggling artists the resources they need to create, but it would also offer them a platform to share their work with the public.
A Dream Still Close to My Heart
Although I have stepped away from the arts and entertainment industry, the passion for supporting creatives has never left me. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize how much I still care about what artists need to succeed. My dream may have shifted, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone.
When this blog challenge came up and I reflected on the idea of having something named after me, it reminded me of that dream. The truth is, I would love for something like Lady Flava News—a creative space for all—to come to life. A place where artists can live, create, grow, and thrive, supported by a community that believes in the power of creativity and the value of art in all its forms.

Maybe, just maybe, this dream will one day become a reality. Even if it’s in a different form than I once envisioned, I know there’s a need for spaces like this. And who knows? Perhaps I’ll find a way to get involved again in some capacity, offering my experience and passion to help creatives get the support they deserve.
Until then, I’ll continue to dream and hope that one day Lady Flava News will be a reality—an all-inclusive artistic space that nurtures the creativity of those who need it the most.
