Your Health Begins With You: A Guide to Healing with Intention and Faith

I believe that when it comes to pain or health concerns, there are so many important factors to consider—far beyond the diagnosis itself.

It starts with getting the right answers quickly. A timely and accurate diagnosis helps you and your care team determine the best path forward toward relief and recovery. Your medical providers, your loved ones, and your own inner support system all play a vital role in how that journey unfolds.

If medication is prescribed, I encourage you to ask:

  • Is this helping to heal the problem, or just masking the symptoms?
  • What are the possible side effects?
  • Are there holistic options that might complement or even replace this approach?

If a surgery or procedure is recommended, these are essential questions to ask:

  • When is it scheduled?
  • What pre-op labs, tests, or clearances are required?
  • What are the specific pre-op instructions (e.g., holding medications, fasting, bathing)?
  • What will recovery look like immediately afterward?
  • Is this a day surgery or overnight stay?
  • What should I expect when I return home to recover?
  • Will I need therapy afterward—and what kind?
  • What medications will be prescribed, and why?
  • What are my follow-up steps and when should I schedule them?

Now, I want to share something that I deeply believe—not only as someone who has worked in healthcare for the past eight years, but also as someone who has lived with her own health concerns:

Your mental and emotional health play a huge part in your physical recovery.

You have to trust your care team and believe in the information they are providing. You have to believe in the power of medication and therapy, yes—but also believe that it’s all working together to bring you healing.

And I’ll say this boldly:

Faith and belief matter.

When you believe that recovery is possible, when you breathe deeply through the hard moments, when you pray (if that’s part of your life), or simply practice stillness through meditation—you are helping your body heal.

Key things that support healing:

  • Intentional breathing – Calm your nervous system, ground your thoughts, and bring peace to your body.
  • Prayer and meditation – Connect with your spirit and allow peace to flow through you.
  • Movement – Sometimes you’ll need to push through the pain, because healing often requires action.
  • Water – It’s your best friend: keeping you hydrated, flushing out toxins, and protecting your joints and muscles.
  • Lifestyle changes – If your team recommends them, take time to research, ask questions, and reflect on your willingness to make lasting changes.

Here’s what I’ve learned over and over again:

  • Be an active participant in your health.
  • Ask questions until you understand.
  • Research and stay informed.
  • Take intentional steps, one at a time.
  • Believe in yourself, believe in your care team, and trust the process.

Your health begins with YOU.
You deserve your full attention.
Because you matter.
