ASipOfFlava|Sometimes people raise their voices not because they’re angry —sometimes they are calm and appreciative

Friday Reflection told on Saturday

Sometimes people raise their voices not because they’re angry —

but because they’re scared time is slipping away from them.

Today reminded me of that.

Deadlines. Travel plans. Pain. Urgency.

All of it shows up loud when someone feels out of control.

I didn’t match the volume.

I stayed steady.

I told the truth kindly.

I didn’t promise what I couldn’t deliver.

And in the end, after all the noise…

he thanked the kindness.

That’s the part I’m sitting with.

You don’t have to absorb someone else’s urgency.

You don’t have to defend yourself to stay professional.

You don’t have to harden to hold boundaries.

Today reminded me that not all difficult phone calls are the same.

Some come in loud — fueled by urgency, fear, and frustration.

Others come in quiet — just people trying to figure out how to make life work.

I had both.

One call tested my steadiness.

Another reminded me why calm matters.

A snowbird out of state. A virtual visit that couldn’t happen because of licensing. On paper, it was a dead end. But with a little flexibility and a lot of listening, we found another way — a simple phone call, case by case, human to human.

He was elated.

Same job.

Same phone.

Very different moments.

And that’s the lesson I’m taking into the weekend:

Not every problem needs force.

Some just need understanding and a steady voice on the other end.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is keep your voice calm and your heart intact.

That’s enough for today.
