Calling Off: Workplace Culture & Policy 🌻 (Part 2)

In Part 1, I shared how I’ve learned to honor my health and stay home when I’m sick. It’s taken me years—and a little wisdom from the younger generation—to understand that calling off isn’t weakness, it’s responsibility.

But this got me thinking… what about the culture at work?

👉 If you’re still working, do you push through sickness to go to work?

👉 And what is your workplace policy around being sick?

Some jobs encourage people to stay home, while others make you feel guilty for calling off. In healthcare, for example, it’s complicated—we don’t want to risk exposing patients or coworkers, but we also know how hard it is when the team is already short-staffed.

The truth is, a healthy workplace should encourage people to rest when they’re unwell. It’s about protecting everyone—not just the individual.

I’d love to hear your experiences. How does your workplace handle sick days? Do you feel supported, or pressured to push through?
