Monday Real Talk: When The World Gets Too Loud
I disappeared for a few days.
Not because I was sick.
Not because I was angry.
Not because anything dramatic happened.
I just needed quiet.
The world became too loud for me.
Sometimes we carry so much noise that we do not even realize how heavy it has become. Social media. News. Opinions. Arguments. People talking over each other instead of listening to each other.
I found myself feeling overwhelmed by it all.
What troubles me most is not that people disagree. We are supposed to have different opinions. We come from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
What troubles me is how quickly we stop seeking understanding.
It feels like people have become more interested in defending a position than discovering the truth. More interested in being heard than listening. More interested in choosing a side than seeing the humanity of the people involved.
Maybe that is why I needed to step away.
I needed to sit in the quiet and remind myself of what I know.
I know that every person has a story.
I know that life is rarely as simple as social media makes it seem.
I know that kindness still matters.
I know that truth matters.
And I know that my peace is too valuable to hand over to the noise.
At 65 years old, I have lived long enough to watch this world change in many ways. Some changes have been beautiful. Some have been difficult. But one thing I have learned is that wisdom often comes from slowing down, listening carefully, and being willing to see beyond our own experiences.
The older I get, the less interested I am in winning arguments.
I am more interested in understanding people.
I am more interested in truth.
I am more interested in protecting my peace.
So if you’ve noticed that I’ve been a little quiet, that’s why.
Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is step away from the noise and spend a little time with our own thoughts.
The world will still be there when we come back.
And sometimes we return with a clearer mind, a softer heart, and a better understanding of what truly matters.
