Sunday – A Taste of Flava
Protecting My Peace
This morning, I found myself thinking about how much my life has changed over the past few years.
When I left Las Vegas, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my life, my relationships, and the choices I had made.
One of the hardest lessons I had to learn was accepting responsibility—not for what other people chose to do—but for what I allowed to penetrate my soul.
That was a difficult realization.
I couldn’t control how people treated me.
I couldn’t control their words, their attitudes, or their choices.
But I could control whether I continued to give those things space in my heart.
Today, I understand something I didn’t fully understand back then.
I now control who has access to me.
That doesn’t mean I don’t care about people.
It doesn’t mean I avoid difficult conversations.
It simply means I’ve learned that not everyone deserves unlimited access to my peace.
Some relationships feed your spirit.
Others slowly drain it.
Some conversations encourage growth.
Others leave you feeling exhausted.
I’ve learned that protecting my peace isn’t selfish.
It’s healthy.
If something no longer brings value to my life, I don’t have to make a huge public announcement.
I don’t have to argue.
I don’t have to explain myself.
Sometimes it’s enough to simply walk away with grace.
I’ve also realized that my world has become much smaller.
Years ago, I might have seen that as something to be sad about.
Today, I see it differently.
My world is filled with family, my tower window, the birds that visit me each day, my work, my writing, my faith, my quiet mornings, and the people who genuinely bring peace into my life.
It may be smaller…
But it feels healthier than it has ever been.
I’ve learned that peace isn’t something you stumble upon.
It’s something you intentionally protect.
As I begin another year of blogging, I hope to continue writing about the things that truly matter.
Kindness.
Respect.
Grace.
Healthy boundaries.
Personal responsibility.
And learning to invest my time and energy in the people and places that feed my spirit.
Because life is too precious to spend it constantly surrounded by noise.
Today, I choose peace.
Today, I choose gratitude.
And today, I’m grateful that I finally understand something that took me years to learn…
I control who has access to my heart, my mind, and my spirit.
That feels powerful.
Blessings,
Lady Flava 🌻
