RealTalk|Symptoms, Systems… and Glitches

Thursday Real Talk

What Do We Do When Life Becomes Symptoms, Systems… and Glitches?

Lately, I’ve noticed that so much of our lives revolves around navigating systems.

Whether it’s healthcare, insurance, work accommodations, banking, travel, or even paying a bill online, there always seems to be another process, another form, another password, another program, or another step before we can move forward.

Technology has made many things easier.

But it has also created new challenges.

One small glitch can delay an appointment.

A referral can be faxed but never arrive.

A password can lock us out.

A form can be sent to the wrong department.

One missing document can stop an entire process.

It doesn’t take much for frustration to build.

As someone living with chronic pain and mobility challenges, I have learned that when your life already centers around managing symptoms, appointments, medications, referrals, and trying to stay healthy, one unexpected obstacle can feel much bigger than it really is.

Today reminded me of that.

Not only in my own life, but in listening to patients who simply wanted someone to hear them.

Many weren’t asking for miracles.

They wanted answers.

They wanted to know what the next step was.

Sometimes I think that is what we all want.

A little clarity.

A little communication.

Someone willing to say,

“I understand. Let’s figure out the next step together.”

Life is going to have glitches.

Technology is going to fail.

Systems are going to have bottlenecks.

People are going to make mistakes.

The question isn’t whether those things will happen.

The question is…

How do we respond when they do?

Do we give up?

Do we allow frustration to take over?

Or do we pause, gather ourselves, ask questions, look for solutions, and continue taking one step at a time?

I’ve learned that patience doesn’t make the obstacle disappear.

But it often gives us the clarity we need to find another path forward.

How do you handle life’s glitches when they seem to keep piling up?

There’s no judgment here.

I’d love to hear how you navigate those moments.

Blessings,
