Sunday Real Talk
Are We Afraid of Peace?
Lately I’ve been thinking…
I am probably at the best place emotionally and mentally than I have ever been.
Now don’t get me wrong. My life isn’t perfect.
My body isn’t perfect.
My family isn’t perfect.
Work isn’t perfect.
But me…
I’m okay.
That got me wondering…
Have we lived with stress so long that we don’t even know what peace feels like anymore?
I think a lot of us are walking around carrying things that happened years ago. Some of us have healed. Some of us are still trying. And some of us have gotten so used to surviving that we don’t even realize how much our past still shows up in our present.
Sometimes I wonder if we’re actually afraid to heal.
Because healing changes us.
It asks us to let go of the hurt we’ve carried for years. It asks us to stop living in survival mode. It asks us to trust again… maybe even trust ourselves.
That’s not easy.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that people need people.
Not hundreds of people.
Not people who agree with us all the time.
Just genuine connections.
A smile from a stranger.
Holding the door for someone.
Looking someone in the eye and asking how they’re doing… and actually meaning it.
At work, I like making my coworkers laugh when I transfer calls to them. Sometimes it’s just something silly or a quick word of appreciation.
It only lasts a few seconds.
But for those few seconds, we connected.
We smiled.
Maybe we made each other’s day just a little lighter.
Those little moments matter.
I also realized something about myself.
Years ago, I loved being around people all the time.
Today…
I don’t miss it.
I honestly can’t explain why, but I don’t.
I’ve learned that peace isn’t found in how many people are around me.
It’s found in the people who feel safe.
For me, My Peace is one of those people.
He gets me.
I get him.
There’s no pressure to be someone I’m not.
That kind of peace is a gift.
The world feels so divided right now.
We misunderstand each other more than we try to understand each other.
We talk more…
But sometimes we connect less.
Maybe that’s why the smallest acts of kindness feel so big.
Maybe we’re all just hoping someone sees us.
The older I get, the more I believe that self-care isn’t just about taking care of our bodies.
It’s about taking care of our hearts.
Protecting our peace.
Healing the parts of us that still hurt.
Learning who we really are underneath all the stress, disappointments, and expectations.
My life isn’t perfect.
But my heart has found more peace than it ever has before.
And for that…
I am deeply grateful.
🌻 Real Talk Question:
What does peace look like in your life?
Have you found it… or are you still looking?
