Disclaimer: These are simply my personal reflections after living in Seattle for 66 years. They come from a lifetime of experiences and a deep love for the city I call home.

Monday A Taste of Flava

Seattle has always been home.

I wasn’t born into a perfect city. No city is.

But I was born into a city that helped shape who I am.

I remember going to the Bite of Seattle, the Torchlight Parade, and Seafair. Those were days of excitement. We gathered as a community and celebrated our city.

Today… I find myself looking at Seattle through different eyes.

I’ve watched this city grow beyond anything I could have imagined. We’ve become known around the world. Our skyline has changed. Our technology has changed. Our transportation has grown into one of the best systems in the country.

But I’ve also watched other things change.

I wonder how we bring businesses back downtown.

I wonder how we make parking affordable enough that families want to spend the day in the city.

I wonder how we create a city where people feel safe riding public transportation.

I wonder how we help people experiencing homelessness with compassion while also helping our neighborhoods thrive.

I smiled when visitors from around the world talked about how much they enjoyed Seattle during FIFA.

It reminded me of the Seattle I have always loved.

My hope is that we don’t just create that experience for visitors.

I hope we create it for the people who have called Seattle home all along.

Because this city deserves that.

And so do the people who love it.

Blessings from Flava in Her Tower 🌻
