Working From Home, Wrapped in Gratitude
The past two winters have taught me something I don’t take lightly — working from home is a blessing.
When my body isn’t cooperating, being on the phones feels like the best place for me. I can still show up fully, still be present, still do my job well — without my physical struggles being front and center. There’s something comforting about using my voice when my body needs a little grace. On the phone, I don’t have to explain pain. I can just be effective.
I’m also deeply grateful for the team I work with. I’m surrounded by a great group of young coworkers who step up — not just for me, but for anyone who needs coverage. Knowing that two clinic front desks and the phones are handled brings real peace of mind. That kind of teamwork matters. It’s a relief I don’t overlook.
When pain flares, stimulation matters. Noise, movement, constant interaction — it all adds up. Working from home gives me control over my environment, and that makes a difference. Less stimulation means more energy saved for what actually needs me.
My setup is simple but intentional.
My work laptop sits next to a second screen, keeping everything flowing. My personal laptop plays smooth jazz softly in the background — just enough to calm the space. Under my desk is a foot massager doing quiet work, and my Cozy electric blanket is always nearby, ready to wrap around my office chair when needed. It’s not fancy — it’s functional comfort.
Do I miss seeing people in person sometimes? Of course. Connection matters to me. But right now, being home is where my body feels safest, most supported, and most capable.
And that’s something I’m thankful for — every single day.
