Did You Know?

Crows Hold Morning Meetings 🐦‍⬛

This morning I was sitting in my tower with my sunflower coffee mug watching the Seattle rain fall over the neighborhood.

Across the street, three crows were sitting at the very top of a tree. Not down in the branches where it would be sheltered — but right on the thinnest branches at the top.

I wondered why.

Why would they sit in the rain on what looked like the weakest part of the tree?

Then I learned something fascinating.

Did you know that crows often gather in small groups in the morning to communicate and watch their surroundings?

Those thin branches are actually the safest place for them. Heavier predators can’t land there, and the crows can see everything happening around them.

Crows are also incredibly intelligent birds. Scientists say they communicate with each other about food, danger, and territory.

So what I may have been watching this morning wasn’t just three birds in the rain.

It might have been a little crow meeting before the day began.

Sometimes the most interesting discoveries come from the simple moments — a cup of coffee, a rainy morning, and a few curious birds sitting at the top of a tree.
