RealTalk|Where Do Seagulls Sleep

Thursday Real Talk

Where Do Seagulls Sleep?

I had to ask Jessica.

Seriously.

I was sitting in my tower, watching birds, drinking coffee, and somehow my brain decided it needed to know:

Where do seagulls sleep?

Not where they eat.

Not where they fly.

Not where they steal French fries.

Where do they sleep?

Apparently, seagulls don’t spend all night flying around looking for snacks.

Many sleep on rooftops, docks, pilings, beaches, islands, and sometimes even floating on calm water. They gather in groups where they can rest while still keeping an eye out for danger.

Now that makes sense.

Because every creature needs a place to rest.

Birds.

Animals.

People.

All of us.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the importance of having a place where I can simply be.

For me, that’s my tower.

A place to watch the seasons change.

A place to watch crows patrol the neighborhood.

A place to listen to finches sing from the cedar tree.

A place to think.

A place to write.

A place to heal.

Maybe that’s why I was curious about the seagulls.

Because even birds need a safe place to land.

Life asks a lot of us.

Work.

Family.

Responsibilities.

Health concerns.

Stress.

Sometimes we spend so much time taking care of everything else that we forget we need a place to rest too.

Maybe today’s reminder is simple.

Find your place.

Find your moment.

Find your version of a rooftop, dock, island, or tower.

And when you find it, allow yourself to rest there for a while.

Even seagulls do.
