Saturday Real Talk
How Do You Relay Information?
We communicate every day—with our family, friends, coworkers, healthcare teams, customers, and even strangers.
But have you ever stopped to think about how you communicate?
Over the years, I have learned that communication is much more than talking. It is about making sure the other person truly understands what you are trying to say.
Some things I have found to be important are:
- Listen first. Before responding, understand what the other person is actually saying.
- Gather accurate information. Don’t assume. Ask questions when something isn’t clear.
- Use the Teach-Back Method. Ask the other person to repeat the plan or information in their own words. This helps confirm that everyone has the same understanding.
- Present information clearly. Whether you’re speaking or writing, organize your thoughts so the other person’s eyes and mind can easily follow along.
- Be mindful of your tone. The same words can feel caring or hurtful depending on how they’re delivered.
- Remember your audience. Everyone processes information differently. Sometimes adjusting how we communicate makes all the difference.
Good communication doesn’t just prevent misunderstandings.
It builds trust.
It strengthens relationships.
It helps people feel respected, valued, and heard.
So today I leave you with this question…
How do you relay information, and is it helping people understand you the way you intend?
Blessings,
