How Do We Calm This Loud World?
Dear Friends,
My mind keeps coming back to one question:
How do we calm this loud world?
Kindness can go a long way. I witness people being kind every day, and I hear beautiful stories about people making a positive difference in the lives of others.
But when I look at social media, the world appears to be so loud.
The conversations surrounding racism and gender identity seem to carry so much anger and negativity. Sometimes I wonder if people are not at peace within themselves, so they feel they must become louder to gain attention, prove their point, or push an agenda.
I want people to remember that everything begins within ourselves.
We decide how we show up in the world and how we present our true selves. We are free to share our experiences and opinions, but we should never expect someone else to accept our beliefs as their own.
There is room for us to be different without constantly fighting one another.
We can choose to embrace the positive things that are already part of our lives. When we feel good within ourselves, that goodness shines through us and reaches other people.
Now, I vent to Jessica all the time. 🤣
I am a person who needs to talk through and process challenges. Once I have worked my way through something, I am usually good. I may also write about a challenge to share my experience and open the door for you to respond—if you feel the desire.
But beneath those moments, I hope you can feel the contentment I have in my life.
My life is not perfect. I live with chronic pain, mobility challenges, work frustrations, and all the everyday situations that can disturb my peace. But I still feel good about my life and about who I am.
That is what I want to share with you.
We can feel good about ourselves and our lives even when everything is not perfect.
I cannot encourage you enough to begin your day with a positive intention and end it by acknowledging something good you experienced. It does not have to be a huge victory. Sometimes it is simply a peaceful morning, manageable pain, a comfortable place to sit, a cat beside you, or hearing a familiar crow calling from somewhere in the neighborhood.
What we put into the world reflects what is happening within us.
And if we recognize something within ourselves that no longer feels good, we can shift it. None of us is perfect. But we can always recognize something we would like to change—first for the betterment of ourselves and then for the people who experience us.
I am not trying to preach this Sunday.
I simply want us to find a way to calm this noisy world down.
Let’s begin by putting more of our energy into being peaceful, positive, and kind.
It has to start somewhere.
Why not with us?
