🌻 Wednesday A Sip of Flava
A Sweet Spot in My Day
Some calls are routine.
Some are rushed.
And then once in a while… one becomes a sweet spot.
She came on the line already carrying tension. I could hear it before she even finished her first sentence. Words moving quickly. Breathing a little tight. The kind of voice that’s trying very hard to get it right.
So I slowed my voice down.
Not exaggerated. Not overly soft.
Just steady. Clear.
“One step at a time,” I told her.
“We’re going to do this together.”
I broke everything into simple pieces.
Pause.
Let her respond.
Pause again.
On the other end, I could hear her thinking. Processing. Trying to follow each instruction carefully.
“Okay,” she said slowly. “So first I… then I… and then I…?”
“Yes,” I said. “You’ve got it.”
Her breathing softened.
There was a shift in the line. You can feel that when you’re on phones long enough. The energy changes. The static disappears.
We finished walking through what she needed.
Then she said, almost shy but with a little humor in her voice,
“Well… if I fall down, I’ll call back.”
And I laughed. A real laugh.
“Deal,” I told her.
She laughed too.
Just like that, the tension was gone. It was no longer anxiety and instructions. It was two people sharing a moment.
When the call ended, I sat there for a second.
No one else in the room. Just me at my desk.
And I thought,
That was a sweet spot in my day.
Not because I fixed something huge.
Not because it was dramatic.
But because tone mattered.
Patience mattered.
And we both hung up feeling better than when we started.
Sometimes that’s enough.
Sip by sip…
those are the moments that stay with you.
