Did You Know?

Seattle Weather Has a Mind of Its Own 🌧️☀️

This morning I woke up cold.

Not freezing… but that damp Seattle cold that sneaks into your bones and makes you want a blanket even though the forecast says it’s supposed to reach the 70’s later.

The windows were wide open from the day before, and I remember thinking:

“The sun is not rushing today.”

And it really didn’t.

Even Mom said the sun didn’t come out at the hospital until around 3:30pm today… which was pretty much the same over here.

So I started looking into why Seattle has days like this.

And honestly?

It’s fascinating.

Seattle weather is heavily influenced by all the water surrounding us:

Puget Sound Lake Washington the Pacific Ocean air moving inland

That cool marine air moves in overnight and creates low clouds, moisture, gray skies, and chilly mornings… especially during spring.

Then during the day, the sun slowly tries to warm the ground enough to “burn off” that cloud layer.

Some days it clears quickly.

Other days… like today… the clouds hold on until late afternoon before finally giving way to sunshine.

And because Seattle sits between:

water

hills trees and

mountain ranges like the Olympics and Cascades

…the weather moves differently here.

Slowly.

Layered.

Moody.

Beautiful.

One neighborhood can be sunny while another is still gray.

That explains why Seattle weather can feel so personal.

You’re not just experiencing temperature.

You’re experiencing atmosphere.

And honestly… I think living surrounded by water and mountains shapes the mood of this city too.

The foggy mornings.

The gray skies.

The late afternoon sunlight finally breaking through.

Seattle teaches you patience with the weather 😁

By 4:40pm today, the sun finally arrived at my tower window.

Late… but beautiful.

And somehow that felt very Seattle.
