A Sip of Flava: Writing as My Daily Commitment
My writing has truly become my passion — and more than that, a commitment I’ve made to myself.
It’s something I’ve created discipline around, something I show up for daily. Writing helps me process life and its challenges. It allows me to express gratitude, research topics that matter to me, and sometimes write reviews on places or products I enjoy.
It’s something I genuinely look forward to continuing when I retire from working. Writing isn’t just something I do — it’s something that grounds me.
I actually started blogging about 15 years ago, but it’s only this year that I’ve truly stepped up and embraced my thoughts through words. I stopped holding back. I stopped editing myself for comfort. I started trusting my voice.
If you follow me, you know I live with arthritic pain and lumbar radiculopathy. Over time, I’ve learned solid techniques to help manage my pain — to the point where I’ve been able to reduce my use of acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Writing is one of those techniques. It helps shift my focus away from pain and mobility limitations and brings my attention back to purpose and presence.
Writing gives me space to breathe.
My hope is that you have an outlet too — whether it’s writing, art, music, movement, or quiet reflection — something that helps you express yourself, calm your spirit, or simply experience moments of joy and peace.
We all need something that belongs just to us.
